EMCOMM

John Zietlow K9WIC EmComm Chair submitted the following report (read by Rob)t:

  • Due to changing roles in the Chicagoland Marathon, it is not clear if there will be a role for ham radio participation this year. Discussions with the PD, FD, and EMA confirm that they are happy to have us, but do not expect our participation this year. To review, the event this year has been moved to May 7th. At least five of the nine Schaumburg Emergency Radio Team members will not be available on May 7th. We have not declined officially, but our participation is doubtful or significantly minimized.
  • On Saturday, April 15th, Hoffman Estates will have an organizational meeting for a new Emergency Radio Team. Details are still being worked out, but those interested in EmComm should save the date. It is further anticipated that HE will use the third Saturday of the month for EmComm training and exercises. More to follow.
  • The Schaumburg EMA Coordinator indicated at a meeting last Friday that the Village considers ham radio and the SARC as a valued component of Emergency Management. It is anticipated that we will be involved in future exercises and public education.
