Construction Project (CP)

Cliff Sowka K9QD:  We’ve been taking a survey of potential projects and find four (4) members are interested in building Octopus HF Antenna but not achieving enough critical mass at the moment to justify the project yet.  Joe Barela KB9RCR has been working on a Bill of Material and finds some hardware items require lot-purchase of 100-pieces in order to obtain such desirable items as stainless steel fittings but we don’t have enough build-interest to justify the effort at the moment.

The club continues to organize the substantial SK donation and the initial sorting/cataloging of equipment in underway and stored in the locked cabinets.

Inventory/model/value of the ~200 items requires much effort so we’re going to be consuming time to achieve the final listing during our next few meetings.

The Board of Directors agreed with Dennis C. Calvey’s KD9HIK plan for new student equipment donations from the cache and our Education Team will be in charge of dispensing (HTs, etc.) at the conclusion of Q1 class.  The goal is to offer the remaining equipment to our members via an internal auction with suggested minimum bids probably to begin around 50% of recent eBay closed auctions.

Paul Bocci K9NO will be hosting a special station set-up during the October 26th CP meeting and will be in the northern part of the basement to help avoid the ambient noise we generate over at the southern end.  He will also have easy access to our roof-top long-wire’s basement termination at the lightning suppressor header on the I-Beam above his station’s table.

Reminds me:  we need to purchase a few more tables and chairs for CP meetings now that we’re consistently hosting >25 folks at these gatherings.

Repeaters

Rob Glowacki N9MVO (not present) has been granted a $2,000 initial budget to hire professional antenna diagnostics for the 2M machine on Barrington Road.  We have enough funds available to tackle the initial effort and even able to procure a new StationMaster antenna for water tank mounting if needed.

It would be good if we could produce a short video of the 2M Machine installation for display on our website.  Maybe we can record and narrate something when the antenna diagnostics is being performed.

No update on diagnostic effort at the moment and we’re hopeful work can begin before inclement weather is upon us.

Education:

Leo Ribordy N9NBH reports we will provide a Technician Class for a 10-week run starting January 11, 2025 at the Hoffman Library facility on Hassle road.  Leo will be publishing an Instructor sign-up sheet to garner enough of our teaching members to help educate the expected Ham Radio candidates.

Public Service

Rob Glowacki N9MVO not present.
