Construction Project (CP)

Cliff Sowka K9QD:  The club has completed organization of the substantial SK donation.  We will bring equipment out of the storage cabinets and have display ready this coming Saturday.

Chris AC9GN explained the process:  The SK auction data is finally here!  I’ve included the item data in two formats:

  • Microsoft Excel.xlsx (which can be used by spreadsheet gurus to sort by category, etc.)
  • A landscape-page PDF for the rest of us, with 3 pages of (unfortunately) tiny text.

If you have problems opening these files let me know and I’ll try to post something you can read. I will bring a number of paper copies of the PDF to the club meeting this Thursday for those who may be uncomfortable with digital media.

Note that most of this equipment is from an apparently non-smoking previous owner, in very good condition (some unused and in-box!), and very clean.  See the descriptions for the items for exceptions. Unless otherwise indicated, items *should* operate properly, but will be sold as-is, and no guarantees are provided.

Here are the rules for this auction:

1.) Only members in good standing of Schaumburg Amateur Radio Club will be allowed to participate.  If you’re unsure if you are a paid member, please try to access the club roster on the website:  you should be able to see your status there.  If all else fails, contact me via email at  ‘treasurer at n9rjv dot org’ (check the contact information on the club website if need be) and I will verify your status for you.

2.) This list is provided at this time as a preview of the items that are available. Don’t try to bid just yet, the bidding begins Saturday November 23rd.

Note that one item escaped this list, and it’s locked up in a cabinet at the CPM site, so I can’t add it at this time: this is a combination of a Raspberry Pi model zero (W+?) with a UHF hotspot board, an OLED display, a rubber-duckey antenna, and case. I will post more information on this item when I am able to check this item at the Construction Project meeting (and the auction begins).

3.) All items are boxed or bagged with the inventory number and will be laid out for inspection at the next Construction Project Meeting on November 23, 2024. Please don’t open these boxes or bags yourself!  A lot of work went into sorting these items and we don’t want parts getting lost or mixed up with other items. If you wish to look inside, ask a club officer (most likely me) and we’ll pull it aside and let you examine it in greater detail.

4.) Bidding will open on November 23, 2024 (the day of the Construction Project Meeting).

5.) Bids will begin at the value shown in the Estimated Used Value column for each item.

6.) Bids must be specified in whole US dollars (no outbidding by one penny!).

7.) Only Open Outcry bids in emails posted to SARC-ALL will be accepted.

8.) In an effort to simplify going through all the bids, I’d like to ask that each bidder please place bids as individual email posts with the heading containing the following information:

  • The Inventory number with a leading ‘#’
  • Your bid for that item
  • Your callsign (or name, if you don’t have a callsign yet, or just want to use your name instead).

An example header for, say Inventory #27 at $40 for me would be:

·         #27 $40 AC9GN

….you don’t need to put anything in the actual message, unless for some reason your email program demands it, then you can just put the same information in the email body itself.

One email post per inventory item, please!  Don’t group multiple bids in one email.

Please do not post updated bids as replies to other people’s posts, as this will make them very hard to track!

Bids that don’t follow this format won’t be rejected, but they will greatly perturb the treasurer.

Please don’t perturb the treasurer. He doesn’t like it.

7.) Bidding will close on Friday, November 29 at midnight.

8.) Winning bids will be announced in an email on Saturday, November 30.

9.) Winning bidders may pay for and pick up their items at the next several CPM meetings on December 14 and 28, 2024. Winning bids must be paid before items can be picked up.

Cash and personal checks will be accepted, and all funds will be received by the SARC treasurer (me), or any club officer if for some reason I am unable to attend. Zelle payments are also acceptable: just PLEASE be sure to note your callsign/name, and the item number(s) that you bid on (you can pay for multiple items with one Zelle payment, unlike the bids).

Rob Glowacki N9MVO:

Received Towerworks’ estimate to replace our 2M antenna.  Several open questions discussed:

·         Estimate received but need itemized parts/labor

·         Insurance coverage requirements

·         Prevailing wage compliance

·         Permit for Public Works site access (reason to understand prevailing wage question)

·         Requesting clarification: StationMaster exact replacement

·         Delivery

·         Cash deposit, final payment requirements

Rob will contact Towerworks to clarify their proposal and report to Board.  We wish to accomplish the project before inclement weather sets-in for the season.

Education:

Leo Ribordy N9NBH reports he has obtained required instructors for our training sessions.  The 10-week run starts January 11, 2025 at the Hoffman Library facility on Hassle road.

Public Service

Rob Glowacki N9MVO no report.

Dennis C. Calvey KD9HIK no report.

Social

John Douglas KD9KSH was able change our Holiday Party to Saturday instead of Friday.

Saturday Jan 18th, 2025

Pollyanna Brewing and Distilling

245 E. Main Street

Roselle, IL  60172

847-285-1909

The location has provided us with a free room which is located outside but is heated and enclosed so no worries about the weather.  The SARC BOD has agreed to supply us with great pizza for dinner and you will be responsible for purchasing your own drinks.  Pollyanna serves beer, wine, various cocktails and soft drinks.  I will post the drink menu prior to the party as Pollyanna changes the offerings as new items become available.   If you do not like Pizza, feel free to bring your own food at your expense.

This is a great opportunity for the club members and their wives to sit down and talk with each other and to meet with the newer members you may not know.   Our Holiday Parties in the past have been fun and everyone seems to have a good time.  Having the club pay for the food is a bonus.

We will also use this opportunity to draw the name of the person who participated in the weekly nets and to announce other exciting events.

Between now and the party in January, I will make many posts to remind you of the event and provide more information.  Remember, this Party is for all club members who want to attend, whether they come as a single or as a couple.  Our past events always had more members come single which is why I am encouraging you to bring your wife or partner.

Looking forward to your advising me if you can attend and the number of people.  As said above, this is the first of many Emails but you might want to get your name in early.

Best regards for the coming Holidays

John KD9KSH
