Only 1 more session remaining. The program was a huge success and very well attended this year.

 

Public Service – Rob Glowacki N9MVO

Rob was not able to attend. Members are reffe radio services this year. He also reminded members of planning for upcoming activities including HE 4th of July parade, a potential event July 6th at Busse Woods and the Schaumburg SeptemberFest.
Howard Mitchell KD9WSV reminded members of the opportunity to assist DuPage Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) with an event on May 3rd at Cantigny. They are looking for additional volunteers. This is a good opportunity to get experience with an EmComm organization. See SARC-ALL posting on April 16 by Howard with details.

Technician level class been completed . There has been some initial discussion of possibly offering a General level class in the Fall timeframe.

EmComm – Howard Mitchell KD9WSV

Howard reminded members that he has asked for those interested emergency communications to take the ICS-100 FEMA on-line course by the end of this month. Additional training including on-line courses, in-house presentations and field exercises are being planned.

Field Day Status – Danny Kafka KD9HIL

Danny gave a run through of the SARC-ALL posting on April 17 that listed all of the major planning needs.
Additional areas of discussion included:
  • Treasurer Chris Brewer AC9GN will work on getting the insurance rider on 4/18
  • Once the above is documented, Danny Kafka KD9HIL will submit the site permit
  • Need to get commitment for tower climbers for antenna set up and removal
  • Meals planned will include
– pizza on Friday for those helping in the setup activities (each participant asked to contribute $5.00 to cover costs),
– dinner on Saturday is being planned by Eliot Libner, N9EPA
– breakfast for Sunday coordinated by Cliff Sowka K9QD. He will purchase the items to be prepared but will need adequate grill arrangements and cooks.

Old Business:

Regarding the replacement of the two meter antenna, Paul Burkett KD9FMN Indicated he has gotten a written proposal from Tower Works which includes the antenna and installation. The Village of Schaumburg has requested documentation regarding this installation before issuing a permit. We are still working on how to satisfy that request.

 

New Business:

Tom O’Boyle N96UN reminded members of a planned Bike Ride event scheduled on May 17.
Kirk Musselman K9MSG passed along some information regarding aiding Scouts to fulfill the requirements for attaining their Radio merit badge.

Kirk Musselman K9MSG had a fantastic presentation regarding his experience with POTA including the software tools he uses , how he has set up his radio and computer in parks and what lessons he has learned to generate the maximum successful contacts.
