Renewing Your License

By John AC9JS

In general, there are 3 steps:

  1. Create an Account
  2. Associate a Username to an Existing FRN
  3. Renew License

Create an Account

Access CORES (FCC Commission Registration System) by typing the following into your browser page:

https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do

This will display the FCC Registration – LOGIN page. Near the bottom right is a box that says “Need a Username?”

Click on the “Register” button.

This should bring you to another screen which says “Create New Account.”

Enter a valid email address in the “Username” and “Confirm Username” fields.

Click on the “Check Availability” button before entering additional
information.

Enter a password in the “Password” field.

Note: The Password must be 12 to 15 characters long, cannot include any part of your Username, and must meet all of the following criteria: 1 lower case letter, 1 upper case letter, 1 number, and 1 punctuation mark/special character.

Continue to fill in the additional fields and follow all of the directions.

Associate a Username to an Existing FRN

Once your username account has been verified, you can then associate it to your existing FRN by going back to CORES at:

https://apps.fcc.gov/cores

and entering your username and password, clicking the “LOG IN” button.

Continue on until you see a page that says “Associate Username to FRN.”

Enter your ten-digit FRN number in the “FRN” field.

You must enter a comment in the “Comment” field. Your call sign will work.

Click on the “CONTINUE” button.

This will bring up another screen which says “Associate User to FRN – Enter Password.”

Enter your password into the field, then click on the “SUBMIT” button.

If everything goes well, you should see another screen, which says “Associate User to FRN Confirmation.”

Renew License

Type the following address into your browser:

https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp

Type in your 10-digit FRN number and your password and click on the “SUBMIT” button.

You should see a “License Manager” screen, which will show the information about your license.

Along the left side of the screen, it will say “My Licenses” and below that it will say “Renew Licenses.”

Click on “Renew Licenses.”

Another screen will be displayed, which says “Select Licenses”

Verify that the “Eligible” radio button is selected.

Below that will be two boxes. The box on the left will be labeled “Filter by Radio Service.”

Your call sign should appear here.

The box on the right will be labeled “Licenses to Renew.”

Highlight the call sign in the left-hand box, click on the “ADD” button. Your call sign should now appear in the right hand box.

Click on the “CONTINUE” button.

NOTE: You can only renew your license 90 days before your license’s expiration date. If you try to renew before 90 days, the information in the left-hand box will be blank and you will be unable to renew your license at this time.
